Follow these simple steps to download and run the WhyTwitter extension.

Step 1: Download the Extension

To get the extension, you have two options:

  1. Using Git: If you have Git installed, open your terminal and type:
    git clone https://github.com/randomness11/whytwitter.git
    
  2. Downloading ZIP: If you prefer a direct download, click Code β†’ Download ZIP on the GitHub Releases Page and extract the contents to your computer.

Step 4: Load the Extension

Now you’ll load the extension you just downloaded:

  1. Click the Load unpacked button.
  2. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the ZIP file or cloned the repository.
  3. Select the folder and click Open.

Step 5: Confirm Installation

Once you load the extension, you should see it listed on the Extensions page. Click on the puzzle piece icon in the top right of Chrome to pin the extension for easy access.

Using WhyTwitter is straightforward:

  1. Navigate to twitter.com or x.com, and you will see the extension’s popup.
  2. Type your reason for visiting Twitter (must be 5 or more characters).
  3. Once you type your intention, you gain access for 5 minutes in that tab only.
  4. After 5 minutes, the extension will block access again.
  5. If you open a new tab, you will need to state a new reason.
